Behold Your God!
Isaiah 40:1-11
November 16, 2025
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
Chapter 40 introduces another major division of Isaiah. The theme shifts now from punishment of the wicked to the comfort and encouragement of God’s people. Cyrus was the new king of Babylon and the one to deliver Israel from their 70 years of bondage. Some of the Israelites wanted to stay in Babylon. The righteous remnant is eager to start over with God. This chapter helps those of us who recognize our sin, accept the discipline for it, and long for God’s presence again. Listen for God’s voice and let Him back in.
40:1-2 It is Time to Come Home
Notice that their exile has come from the Lord’s hand.
God’s love is also expressed in His controlled discipline.
40:3-4 A Pathway for God to Come In
This describes a red-carpet reception for a King.
Have you experienced spiritual depression? Do you know the causes?
40:9-11 Behold Your God
His reward is with Him.
He will tend His flock like a shepherd.
Sermon Idea: We would be spoiled brats without God’s discipline. Listen for His voice and let Him back in.
