Help My Unbelief
Mark 9:14-29
March 1, 2026
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
The ministries we share together in the church are not always mountaintop experiences. For the most part, we do ministry in the valleys of our lives and the lives of those we love for Christ’s sake. But those ministries must be accomplished through a fresh and vibrant renewed faith in God. While Jesus, Peter, James, and John were away on the mountain, a desperate father brings his son to the remaining disciples for healing. Their failure leads to heckling from the crowds and two object lessons from Jesus in Mark 9:14-29.
Main Idea: Confidence in the sovereign power of God moves God to act on our behalf.
Two valuable lessons for Christ followers then and now:
9:14-19 Your Spiritual Power Must be Renewed in Order to Avoid Frail Faith
Ask yourself, “Why haven’t I experienced God like I have in the past?”
9:20-29 Confess Your Unbelief and Pray Because Prayer is the Avenue to Faith
The father becomes a believer when he risks everything on what little faith he has.
