Are you keeping up with Jesus? Mark has Jesus on the move preaching, teaching, delivering and healing the crowds. Crowds in Mark’s gospel indicate those who come to Jesus for all the wrong reasons. They want healing and forgiveness without commitment. But there are five people who interrupt Jesus in a bizarre way. They have a determined faith and Jesus sees it. Notice the order of Jesus’ actions? He forgives the man first and heals him second. Forgiveness is our greatest need. Stop doubting God’s power in your life.
Sermon Idea: Forgiveness liberates us from the power of sin and death. Don’t second guess the power of Jesus.
2:1-5 Five People Who Mean Business
Jesus addressed this man as an adult would a child, as a superior would a dependent.
In the Bible sickness and other kinds of suffering sometimes result from sin.
2:6-12 Religious People Who Are Slow to Believe
Jesus sees our heart.
“Son of Man” means an extraordinary, unique man who has the authority to forgive sins.
