How Can These Things Be?
John 3:1-21

Today I am breaking from the Hebrews study to follow the Holy Spirit’s lead. Last week we felt the conviction as the writer admonished the Hebrew Christians to move on to maturity. Some of you had good questions after the sermon and others were visibly stirred by the Holy Spirit for various reasons. My hopeful aim today is to present a “basic principle” (Hebrews 5:12) of the Christian faith so you can test your genuineness. Nicodemus had a very good question for Jesus, “How can these things be?”
Basic Principle: Salvation is a supernatural act of God’s generosity. Look to the work of Christ if you need assurance.
Three insights that affirm the lordship of Jesus Christ in your life:
3:1-8 A Spiritual Hunger-Drawn by the Spirit
Nicodemus would have been offended that he could not see the Kingdom of God.
3:9-16 A Growing Grasp of Spiritual Things-Awakened by the Spirit
An illustration of God’s generosity.
3:17-21 An Increasing Hatred for Sin-Set Apart to the Spirit
Those who accept the work of the Spirit are glad to be exposed by Him.
Can you now answer Nicodemus’s question?
