Muttering their disapproval of Jesus and His treatment of sinners, the Pharisees point out that they know nothing about the nature of God. In three parables Jesus teaches them about the attitude of God towards those who are lost.
Sermon in a Sentence: God takes the initiative to pursue those who are lost. Turn to God and He will embrace you.
11-24 The Son Who Strayed
This son takes the money and runs. He shows us the dreadful distance sin takes a person.
25-32 The Son Who Stayed
This son is a snapshot of the grumbling Pharisees. This brother shows us that one can know the father and still be alienated from him.
The Father Who Embraced
Five deliberate actions of the father in v20 underscore the kindness of the father and ultimately the compassion of our Father in heaven.
