In this letter I would like for you to notice the uncanny parallels Jesus draws between the dead ineffective city of Sardis and the Christians in the church at Sardis. The days of the royal military splendor of Sardis were gone. She was once a wartime refuge city; a safe haven for the fearful. So it was with the church, says Jesus. “You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead.” I believe the church there was a livewire of activity. Their calendars were full of meetings and events. But they were ineffective in their city for Christ.
Sermon in a Sentence: Busyness is not equaled to effectiveness; wake up and remember God’s call on your life.
