The Kind of People Who Inherit the Kingdom of God

The way I read Mark’s Gospel is not chronologically but theologically. This is why I put these two stories in chapter 10 together. In both accounts the people who approach Jesus are rebuked. The rebukers have it all wrong. In 13-16, little children approach Him in humility and dependence. In 46-52 the blind man comes to Jesus with confident faith and calls out for mercy. These are two examples of those who inherit the kingdom of God.

Main Idea: Jesus throws out the Welcome mat to those who recognize their need for mercy.

Mark points out two virtues that are necessary to inherit the Kingdom of God:

13-16 Those Who Are Like Children Who Come With Humility and Dependence
In this true story it is not what the little children possess that makes them heirs of heaven, but what they lack! What do they lack?

46-52 Those Who Come to Jesus with Confident Faith and Call on Him for Mercy
The crowds call on “Jesus of Nazareth”. This man can’t see Him but recognizes Him as the Messiah!
