The Grace of the Father
Colossians 1:1-14
June 29, 2025
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
Colossians was written by the apostle Paul. He was imprisoned in Rome when he wrote Colossians, Ephesians, Philemon, and Philippi-ans. Colossae was located in the Lycus Valley of modern-day southern Asia. The Gospel arrived to this lush and beautiful valley from the lips of Epaphras who was most likely in Jerusalem for Passover and Pentecost. After he was saved, he got back home as fast as he could to share the good news. Sadly, false teachers followed Epaphras and led the young Christians in Colossae away from grace and into harmful human traditions. This letter argues against those human traditions and promotes the grace of the Father through His good and pure Gospel. We should not miss that the first chapter is couched in a prayer from Paul to the Father.
