The Farewell Promises of Jesus continue in Chapter 16. In this chapter, Jesus promised to send His followers a Holy Helper. They should not be filled with anxiety about the hard times ahead and fall away like their ancestors in the Exodus. When Jesus atoned for our sins and ascended to the Father, He divinely dispatched the Holy Spirit to earth.
Sermon in a Sentence: The Church has a permanent Helper. Apply the Spirit’s help and listen for His Counsel.
Two opportunities to receive the help Jesus sent us:
A. Apply the Spirit’s Help that is Available to You 16:4b-11
How does He help us?
He S___________ us from falling away.
He F_________ us from trying to go at it alone.
He R___________ truth to the lost.

B. Listen to the Holy Spirit’s Counsel 16:12-15
Notice the many masculine singular pronouns.
The Holy Spirit is a Person not an object.
