The Gracious Promise of Our Rescue
James 5:7-11
Sunday, May 12, 2024
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
God promises the crown of life to those who don’t desert Him. James’ readers were being oppressed by non-Christians. Non-Christian employers withheld wages from the Christians. The Christians in James’ church were taken to court and sued leaving them with nothing. These things happened because they were faithful to the Christian way. James directs his readers to make two improvements while they wait for their glorious rescue.
Sermon in a Sentence: God will judge those who oppose Him, but Christ is coming back to rescue His Church.
Two character adjustments we should make while we wait for our glorious rescue:
5:7 Be Patient; God is Always on Time.
There will be a sudden and visible return of Jesus.
The farmer illustrates godly patience in v 7.
5:8-11 Stop Complaining; God Rewards Those Who Persevere.
Two illustrations of perseverance in verses 10 and 11.
James shows us God in two pictures: Our Rescuer, Our Judge
