Safe and Secure in the Arms of Christ

1 John 5:13-21

Sunday, December 12, 2021

Dr. Kelly B. Burton

The apostle John closes his first letter to the churches with a list of absolutes. He hopes to bolster the confidence of every authentic Christian. Look how many times he uses the phrase “we know” in verses 13-20! Assurance in the teachings and works of Christ alone will get us through to the end. We don’t need more confidence in ourselves; we need to put more confidence in Christ!

Sermon in a Sentence:  The Son of God has come and set us free; put more confidence in Him.

Three Absolutes for the Authentic Christian:

5:13 Once you are saved you are always saved because  Jesus is keeping you.

5:14 God delights to see you coming to Him to pray; He will answer you.

5:18-19 The Evil one has incarcerated the world, but he cannot harm you.
