By now I am sure you have picked up on how Luke likes to emphasize Jesus’ love for the poor, and the socially outcast. This parable graphically explains that the eternal consequences of greed are severe. Remember how the father in Luke 15 treated his straying son? So then we should receive the poor in the same compassionate spirit.
Sermon in a Sentence: God is eternally serious about how we treat the poor. Choose wisely how you will live in this life.
16:19-26 A Graphic Picture of the Afterlife
We see two men: one is a feasting man, the other is a begging man.
In the afterlife, God will radically reverse the plight of the poor.
16:27-31 A Warning from the Afterlife
Who is begging now? Some will remain willfully deaf; it is just the stubborn nature of man
