Genesis 28:10-22
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
His name means heel-clutcher. Few characters in the Bible start out as unloving as Jacob! Acting upon his mother’s advice, he stole his father’s blessing from his brother Esau. On the run and fearing for his life, Jacob discovers God chases after the unlovable and graciously blesses them. Very early on in His Book, God is showing us that He is personally involved with our lives.
Sermon in a Sentence: God’s promises trigger worship, and His presence transforms you; since God will not leave you, prove your faith in Him.
28:10-17 God chases even the unlovable and vows Himself to them
Pay close attention to the three unconditional pledges God makes to Jacob:
“I am ___________ you”
“I will __________ you”
“I will not __________ you”
28:18-22 God’s grace ought to transform our mediocre faith into an awesome commitment
Pouring the oil out symbolizes pouring one’s life out to the Lord.
