Psalm 40:1-8
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
Each Psalm has its own personality and pattern. This Psalm is “To the Choirmaster.” The choirmaster served as the conductor of Temple worship. David wrote the words and asked the music man to put music to them for cooperate worship. Psalm 40 is David’s breakthrough moment of praise after some personal sin he committed. Learn from David; believers still sin and will be disciplined for it. But faithful people surrender their sin to God and serve Him with a new song and a new smile!
Sermon in a Sentence: Because God keeps coming to us and helping us in our trouble, we will come to Him and offer ourselves to do His will.
40:1-5 God hears the faithful and helps them even when they make foolish choices
David passes on wisdom learned from God’s discipline.
David invites us to praise God with him.
40:6-8 God’s faithfulness to us demands personal dedication to Him
When Israelites wanted to praise God, they brought Him a sacrifice, a dedication offering.
Hebrews 10:5-10 provides the Perfect Example of a Dedicated Worshiper.
