Sunday February 7, 2021 Parable of the Soils “A Sunday Morning Field Trip” Mark 4:10-20

A Sunday Morning Field Trip
I loved field trips when I was in school. Mom wrote them on our house calendar, and I counted down the days. We went by school bus to Hudnall Planetarium on the campus of Tyler Junior College and learned about the stars and our solar system. We went to Pine Cove by Lake Tyler and learned how to make leather belts. I can still smell the leather!
Today I want you to load up and go with me on a field trip to the middle east. We are going to learn about sowing seed and different kinds of soil. Before the seed will take, the soil must be prepared to receive it. Some soils are hard and as soon as the seed falls on it nearby birds watching all the action come and steal it away before it has time to be washed in.
Jesus told a parable in Mark 4. Parables were His favorite way to teach. They were sort of an inside language, a secret way to find out who really had understanding and wanted to learn more.
I hope you will discover that you understand the parable quite well and as a result you will constantly be working the soil of your heart to receive the seed of the Gospel. Press on!
