The Special Place of the Spirit
1 Corinthians 3:10-17
Sunday, August 4, 2024
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
We are learning from the Corinthians how not to be a church member. Their extreme abuse of the spiritual gifts has led them to quarrel and to brag. In chapter 3 Paul states that in every church there are natural and spiritual people. The natural person may attend the church, even become a member incognito, but he can never grow up as he should because he doesn’t have the Holy Spirit. The spiritual person is careful to listen, learn and grow up in Christ because he has the Spirit. We are God’s temple, the special place of the Spirit. Build your life wisely upon the Gospel.
Sermon in a Sentence: We are God’s temple, the special place of the Spirit. Build your life wisely upon the Gospel.
There are two groups of people Paul addresses in chapter 3:
3:10-11 God’s On-Site Supervisors
Every pastor has a common purpose: to grow the church where God assigned him.
The pastor and teachers are responsible for deepening the faith of our people.
3:12-15 God’s Temple Builders
Natural people vs Spiritual people (see 2:12-16).
At the judgment we will all receive reward or loss of reward
