Don’t Insult the King
Matthew 22:1-14
Sunday, March 24, 2024
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
Today we remember Palm Sunday. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem there were many well-meaning people who were confused about Jesus. To clear up any misunderstandings, Jesus launched into a series of parables that exposed the spiritual condition of the people. Because the Words of God are relevant then and now, parables still expose us for who we really are. Don’t insult God. Listen for His gracious call and respond.
There are two scenes to this parable:
22: 1-10 The Persistent Grace of the King
They paid no attention, even treated the servants shamefully!
The wedding hall is full but not everyone has on the right garments.
22:11-14 The Utter Reality of Utter Darkness
The King’s inspection.
Graphic language of utter darkness. Don’t insult the King!
Sermon in a Sentence: The people of God are those who respond to Him in repentance. Don’t insult the King
