God’s Peculiar People
1 Peter 2:2-5, 9
Sunday, January 21, 2024
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
It has been said that Christ will not taste sweet to us until sin tastes bitter. Peter’s readers have tasted the goodness of God. They are not all new Christians. They are a mix of seasoned saints and baby believers. The pure spiritual milk of God’s Word is what all of them need to grow. One imperative verb drives the entire paragraph: “Crave” the pure stuff! I want this sermon to teach you seven ways to develop a craving for Christ and His Word.
Sermon in a Sentence: Since you have tasted the goodness of God, get hooked on His words.
2:2 Crave Pure Spiritual Milk:
Seven ways Peter exhorts us to desire the Word of God:
➢V1 Once and for all get rid of the sins that are stunting your growth.
➢V3 Relive your spiritual experiences; taste those happy days again!
➢V4 Stop excusing yourself from personal private worship with Jesus.
➢V5 Get connected with the Church and start growing up.
➢V5 You are a priest. Act like one.
➢V9 Remember that dark place you were in when He called you.
➢V9 Put yourself out there for the Spirit’s use.
