The Church’s Number One Enemy
Acts 9:1-19
Sunday, June 18, 2023
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
While Philip was making disciples Saul was arresting them. Acts 9 spotlights the uncommon grace of God in hot pursuit of the church’s number one enemy. We ought to notice that it was Jesus who made the first move in this relationship; He always does. Christ chose Paul to carry His name to the lost and to write thirteen letters in our New Testament. These verses explain how Christ empties us of our rebellion and fills us again with His Spirit.
Sermon in a Sentence: God pursues all of us with uncommon grace. Serve Him because He chose you.
1-9 Blinded by God’s Brilliance
Paul was humiliated and powerless.
His blindness allowed him to see his need for Christ.
10-16 Humbled by God’s Wisdom
A warning for the church not to condemn anyone as lost beyond hope.
Another hard to believe command.
17-19 Filled by God’s Spirit
Now Paul is ready to be used by God.
