Mission Accomplished
Acts 8:34-40
Sunday, June 11, 2023
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
Before Philip’s mission is accomplished, he must tell the eunuch the good news about Jesus. In order for a person to be saved they must hear the Gospel (see Romans 10:17). According to Acts, those who believed were immediately baptized by immersion. This text provides insights into why God kept on blessing the early Christian church.
Sermon in a Sentence: Two signs of the Spirit’s presence in your life are a believable confession and a biblical baptism.
8:34-36 A Believable Confession
“Is there any reason why I could not be baptized?”
What happened to v37?
8:38-40 A Biblical Baptism
Baptism is the sign of the New Covenant.
Baptism signifies being buried and raised together with Christ.
Two Teaching Points from this story in Acts 8:26-40
1. Christian maturity is found in a person who hears the Holy Spirit.
2. God delights in rescuing those who have an open heart to His good news.
