The Path to Glory
John 17:1-8

Dr. Kelly B. Burton
In Hebrews 9 we read last week that Jesus is in heaven interceding for those who belong to God. Have you ever wondered what that sounds like? If so, John describes this intimate work of Jesus in John 17. We are allowed to eavesdrop on the delightful love relationship between the Father and the Son. I would like to take three Sundays to study this prayer with you. My hope is that by the end of the series you will be drawn deeper into fellowship with the Father and the Son through the Spirit.
Sermon Idea: Jesus came into the world to call us out of the world. Glorify God who chose you for Himself.
I see two implied requests from the Son to the Father:
17:1-5 Bring Me Back to You
“Glory” is mentioned five times in five verses. The word means splendor, magnificence, the greatness of God’s nature. See Psalm 24:7-10.
17:6-8 Bring Your People Away from the World and Closer to You
The Doctrine of Election is in the Bible to assure us that we belong to God. (John 6).
