Where Did Jesus Come From?
John 1:1-13
Sunday, December 25, 2022
Dr. Kelly B. Burton
92% of what John writes in his Gospel is not found in the other three Gospels. John utilizes various metaphors to communicate his agenda. For example, light represents salvation and darkness represents the hostility of the world where we live. Moreover, Jesus is described as the eternal Word with God expressing His power and vitality. All these metaphors have deep spiritual meaning to the Jewish people. Once we are saved this spiritual language makes perfect sense.
Sermon in a Sentence: Jesus came to reveal our hostility and shed light on God’s grace. Come and join the family of God.
John makes three announcements about Jesus:
An Exquisite Word 1:1-5
“The Word” refers to the power of God in Genesis 1.
An Eccentric Witness 1:6-8
J the B was sent on a mission from God.
An Exclusive Offer 1:9-13
Some reject the light and stay in spiritual darkness.
