Chapter 5 provides the context of this model prayer. We are told by Matthew that by this time great crowds were following Jesus. So, Jesus leads everyone up a mountain and He sits down to teach them. He distinguishes His disciples from the religious leaders of Jerusalem. They prayed in the open to be seen by everyone. The disciples of Christ are to find a secret place to be alone with God for prayer. God invites us into an intimate relationship with Him that changes everything.
