In this sermon I hope to show you how Paul brings the letter to the Colossians to a fitting close. Two imperative commands in 4:2 and 4:5 drive the structure of the paragraph. Paul concludes his letter by exhorting the church on the way to live out the Lordship of Christ. Almost all the letter has been focused inward, concentrating on our interpersonal relationships. This concluding paragraph looks outward, to those who need Christ in our community.
Sermon Idea: You are forgiven and destined for glory. Watch for opportunities to win others to Christ.
4:2-4 Don’t Let Anything Distract You from Praying
Employ all kinds of prayers.
“Stay here and keep watch.” Mark 14:34, 38.
4:5-6 Use Wise, Warm, and Winsome Words with Non-Christians in Your Community
Love God with all of your mind! Why have we forgotten the importance of the mind?
Why does Paul throw salt into the conversation?
