No where in Scripture does God intend for a person to believe that a simple sinner’s prayer is all one needs to do to enter heaven. Jesus says “He who perseveres to the end shall be saved” Mt 10:22. The Bible encourages us to keep on believing throughout the Christian life. Nicodemus was searching for answers to life after the grave. Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever keeps on believing in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life” Jn 3:16 (italics mine).

So before you make a decision to follow Jesus, count the cost. Are you willing to deny yourself? Are you willing to let God be Master of your life? Are you willing to be accountable to other Christians?

If so, you may pray something like this, “Dear God, today I realize I am spiritually lost. I have offended you with my sins, and I am sorry. Please forgive me. Jesus, will You rescue me from the punishment I deserve? You died in my place on a cross, and today I trust in Your sacrifice for me. Because You died, I die to myself; because You live, I can now live forever. Thank you for saving me. Amen”

Now, if you sincerely prayed to receive Jesus Christ for the first time, please find a Bible teaching pastor and tell him of your decision. You now need to be baptized, and join a Bible-believing church where you can be nourished in the Christian faith. One Sunday morning a week, will not be enough for you to grow and mature in Christ. Find a Sunday School class made up of people who will help you grow and mature.
Please let us know if you made a first time decision today to trust in Jesus Christ. May God richly bless you and keep you until His coming!
