First Baptist Alba friends and family,

We join the thousands of people already engaged in intercessory prayer for the victim’s families, and those injured at First Baptist Sutherland Springs on Sunday. Our hearts are indeed heavy once again as we think about this evil attack upon God’s people who were faithfully worshiping our Savior.

We face a wicked enemy who often manifests himself through very troubled people. Our hope, however, lies in Christ who overcame death and the evil one. Jesus Christ continues to be the Cornerstone of our faith, our hope in times of despair. God is not the author of evil. Scripture never blames God for evil and never excuses humans for the wrong they do.

While we mourn, we will also continue to remember that evil is real. Therefore, we will do our best to make sure the congregation at First Alba is safe. We want our community to feel protected when they come to church. The Security Team of FBC Alba is made up of men and women trained and ready for emergency situations, and they are present in every worship service.

Please continue to pray for the precious people and their families in Sutherland Springs. Likewise, continue getting up every Sunday morning and attending First Baptist Alba. “Because lawlessness will increase, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. . .And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved” {Matthew 24:12-13, Mark 13:13}.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,

Dr. Kelly B. Burton,
Pastor First Baptist Alba
